Move over, square photos. Landscape and portrait modes are now allowable Instagram photo modes.

Starting today, the popular photo sharing app will not only support square posts, but will also allow you to share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape orientation.

Why the change?

“For the average Instagram user as they’re scrolling through their feed, 1 in every 5 moments that they’re seeing, essentially feels like it’s not natively supported on their platform,” Instagram product manager Ashley Yuki told Mashable. “That’s something we really want to make better.”

How will this work?

When choosing a photo or video, you will tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to either portrait or landscape. It’s that easy. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version will appear in your feed.

Go make use of this very cool new Instagram update. Enjoy!
